The Tales of Beedle the Bard - The Deathly Hallows
Once upon a time, there were three brothers walking on a secluded trail. It was almost dusk (or midnight). As they walked, they came to a river. The water was too deep to wade through and too dangerous to swim across. However, the three brothers are proficient in magic. With a wave of their magic wands, a bridge appears over the dangerous and unpredictable water. When they reached the center of the bridge, a hooded figure blocked their way.
Death spoke to them. Death was angry that he had lost three new sacrifices - because travelers usually drowned in this river. But Death is cunning. He pretended to congratulate the three brothers on their magic, saying that they had escaped death by virtue of their cleverness, and each of them could get a reward.
The boss is a warlike man, and what he wants is the most powerful wand in the world: a wand that can always help his master win in a duel, a wand worthy of a wizard who has conquered Death! Death walked to an elder tree on the shore, made a wand from an overhanging branch, and gave it to the boss.
The second child is an arrogant man who decides to continue humiliating the God of Death. What he wants is the ability to resurrect the dead. The God of Death picked up a stone from the shore and gave it to Lao Er, telling him that this stone had the ability to bring the dead back to life.
Then Death asked the youngest Lao San what he wanted. The third child is the most humble and the smartest, and he does not believe in death. So he wanted something that would prevent Death from finding him wherever he went. Death reluctantly gave him his invisibility cloak.
Then Death stood aside and let the three brothers continue on their way. They talked about the wonderful experience just now, admired Death's gift, and walked forward.
Later, the three brothers separated and headed towards their respective destinations.
The boss has been gone for more than a week. Came to a remote mountain village and got into an argument with a wizard. Of course, if he uses the "elder wand" made of elder tree as a weapon, he will undoubtedly win the duel. After his opponent fell dead, he moved on and entered a tavern, boasting loudly about how he was invincible with the powerful wand he had received from Death.
That night, after the boss was drunk, another wizard crept to his bedside, stole the wand, and cut his throat.
In this way, the God of Death took the life of the boss.
At the same time, the second child returned to his home where he lived alone, took out the stone that could bring the dead back to life, and turned it three times in his hand. To his surprise, the girl he wanted to marry but unfortunately died young immediately appeared in front of him.
But she was sad and cold, and there seemed to be a veil between them. Although she returned to the world, she didn't really belong here, and she was in pain. In the end, the second child was tortured crazy by hopeless longing, and committed suicide in order to truly be with her.
In this way, the God of Death took away the second child's life.
However, the God of Death has been looking for Lao San for many years, but has never been able to find him. The third child lived until he was very old, then finally took off the invisibility cloak and handed it to his son. Then he greeted Death like an old friend and happily left the world with him as an equal.
