The "Novel Monthly", which had a profound influence in the 1920s, has ceased publication at this time.

The reason is simple. The Nanjing Nationalist Government enforced strict control over the publishing industry. The Commercial Press, the major shareholder of "Fiction Monthly", was afraid of causing trouble, and immediately ordered the editor-in-chief to strictly control the content of the serialized novels.

Ye Shengtao, Zheng Zhenduo and others were deeply dissatisfied with this, and resigned from their editorial positions one after another, causing the "Novel Monthly" to lose its backbone. Not only did the content of novels go from bad to worse, but the quality of the content in other sections also dropped significantly, and old readers gave up the magazine one after another.

It was not until the Japanese invaded Shanghai last year that the Commercial Press suffered heavy losses and officially announced the suspension of publication of "Novel Monthly".

At the beginning, Zhou Hexuan's "Goddess" and "Dog Officer" were serialized in "Novel Monthly" and became famous, but now they can only be serialized in one magazine.

Zhou Hexuan’s choice was to start a book by himself.

The China Branch of the International Anti-Fascist League, under Zhou Hexuan’s various letters and contacts, now has 68 members, including literati such as Hu Shi and Xu Zhimo, as well as scholars such as Ma Heng, Li Ji, and Chen Yinke, as well as scientists, Social activists, politicians, etc.

Anyway, everyone often writes and communicates, sharing their views on anti-war and peace. Then, according to emotional closeness and geographical distance, they are aggregated into different discussion groups, and everyone occasionally comes out to sit together and chat nonsense.

Well, it's similar to post bars or forums in later generations.

Usually writing letters and communicating is equivalent to chatting and farting on the Internet. Then divide into different discussion groups, chat about hobbies and so on, and make appointments for offline gatherings when you have time.

It can be said that the "China Branch of the International Anti-Fascist League" established by Zhou Hexuan has no combat effectiveness, organization and threat at all.

When Chang Kaishen learned that Zhou Hexuan had formed a group, he immediately sent the Blue Shirts Club to inquire about the situation. After learning the specific information, Chang Kaishen only smiled and said: "There is no need to worry about purely academic organizations."

For example, Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin are now members of the organization. The salon held by their family every week is equivalent to the offline gathering of Peking members. In fact, the topics of chat are still those, but they are more inclined to practical issues.

Zhou Hexuan wanted to serialize a new novel this time, so he simply took the opportunity to start a new magazine - the journal of the China Branch of the International Anti-Fascist League, "Fei Gong".

Originally, the journal was intended to be named "Non-War" or "Anti-War", but these two terms now represent international leftist forces. In order to avoid unnecessary trouble, Zhou Hexuan simply quoted the Mohist idea of "non-attack".

In order to create this journal, Zhou Hexuan sent a special telegram to call Zhu Xiang back to Tianjin.

Zhu Xiang is the same as in history, his temper hasn't changed at all. A few years ago, he went to the United States to study, but changed four schools in three years.

At the beginning, Zhu Xiang studied at Lawrence University, because the professor read aloud an article comparing Chinese people to monkeys in class. Zhu Xiang argued with the professor on the spot, and finally broke up in a quarrel. He left Lawrence University angrily and transferred to the University of Chicago.

Later, the situation was basically the same. Basically every six months, Zhu Xiang would fall out with his teacher or classmates.

In the end, Zhu Xiang did not get a degree certificate, so he chose to return to China. The reason for dropping out was that the professor at the school suspected that he would not return the books he borrowed, and that an American female classmate refused to be at the same table with him. Zhu Xiang believed that the professor and the female classmate were discriminating against him as a Chinese, and he was determined not to continue studying in the United States.

After returning to China, Zhu Xiang was recommended by a friend to be the head of the English Department at Anhui University, with a monthly salary of 300 yuan. But because the school changed the name of the English Department without authorization and meddled in the affairs of the department, he directly fell out with the principal.

After Zhou Hexuan learned of this, he recommended Zhu Xiang to Fudan University. This guy had only taught at Fudan University for three months, and because the school suppressed the anti-Japanese activities of the students, he directly led the student representatives to riot in the principal's office.

In the last year alone, Zhu Xiang changed three jobs and was so poor that he couldn't even pay for his wife's medical treatment.

If Zhou Hexuan doesn't help now, Zhu Xiang is likely to be insane like in history, and finally chooses to commit suicide by throwing himself into the water.

In addition to Zhu Xiang, Zhou Hexuan also hired female writer Lu Yin.

A few years ago, Lu Yin could not bear the annoyance of gossip because of playing with her siblings, so she followed her husband to study in Japan. After the September 18th Incident broke out, Lu Yin immediately chose to return to China, and created her masterpiece "Old People on the Seashore" in Shanghai.

If Zhou Hexuan didn't stand up to help, Lu Yin would die at home due to dystocia next year because he had no money to go to the hospital.

Zhou Hexuan directly appointed Lu Yin as the editor-in-chief of "Fei Gong" magazine, Zhu Xiang as the deputy editor-in-chief, and hired Zhu Ziqing, Xu Zhimo, Hu Shi and others as long-term contributors.

Zhu Xiang had no objection to this arrangement. He knew that he was not good at management and coordination, so he honestly helped Lu Yin.

As for the column setting of "Fei Gong", it is roughly divided into five parts: international current affairs, Japan's national conditions, northeast news, theoretical current commentary and anti-war literature.

International current affairs news is contributed by international students.

Introduction to Japan’s national conditions, provided by students studying in Japan—there are a lot of manuscripts in this area. The students who are stranded in Japan and cannot return to the country spontaneously collect all the information about Japan. They only hope that China can understand Japan better and facilitate the future War of Resistance Against Japan. Many international students were arrested by the Japanese authorities for "spying intelligence".

Northeast news content is provided by the Northeast People's Anti-Japanese Salvation Association. Including the atrocities committed by the Japanese army in the Northeast, the atrocities committed by the Puppet Manchukuo in the Northeast, and the heroic deeds of non-government anti-Japanese groups, etc.

The theoretical current commentary part is to analyze and discuss the situation at home and abroad, most of which are written by Zhou Hexuan.

As for anti-war literature, each issue consists of a long serial and three short stories.

To put it bluntly, this is a magazine that allows citizens to understand the world, understand Japan, understand the Northeast, and resist Japanese aggression.

Non-aggression does not mean opposing war, but opposing unjust wars.

Zhou Hexuan wrote in the preface of the inaugural issue of Feigong:

"I am the one who founded the magazine "Fei Gong" today, not against war, not calling on my compatriots not to resist. The sage Mozi's view on war is that he believes that war delays people's livelihood, harms people, and overthrows the country, so he calls for peace.

But is Mr. Mozi against all wars?

of course not.

What he opposed was "attacking the innocent country", that is, against aggressive wars. At the same time, he advocated "killing the king of innocence", that is, supporting just war.

Today's invasion of China by the bandits is an unjust war. When China rises up to resist, it is self-defense for justice.

The non-attackers should be my 400 million Chinese compatriots, unite as one, and work together to drive the Japanese invaders out of China. This is the correct way to win peace. Blindly giving in and not resisting will only arouse the wolfish ambitions of the Japanese invaders.

Is it possible that a robber breaks into your home and you ask him to remove only the living room? Robbers are bound to break into your house and take away everything in your house. What's more, he wants to occupy your house, enslave your wife and children, and become the master of this house.

Can the land in the four northeastern provinces satisfy the desires of the Japanese invaders? cannot.

The Japanese invaded and occupied Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula, and now the four northeastern provinces. It is impossible for them to stop their aggression, and they are now encroaching on Chahar and Hebei. Their next target will be the entire North China region, and then the Northwest, Central China, South China, East China, and Southwest China...

If you just give in, the whole land of China will be occupied by the Japanese invaders. If you just keep giving in, my 400 million compatriots will all become subjugated slaves!

The purpose of this magazine is to call on the whole people to resist the war.

Regardless of class, regardless of age, regardless of gender, everyone has the responsibility to defend the land and resist the war. Only by resisting aggression can we win precious peace. "

On July 1, 1933, the journal "Fei Gong" of the China Branch of the International Anti-Fascist League was officially published in Tianjin, and the first chapter of "Black Soil" began to be serialized at the same time.
